Silk scarves are set to be trendy this year whether you wrap it loosely around your neck to accentuate a maxi dress or use it in an updo to cover a bad hair day. If you want to keep up with the latest trend, choose scarves in bold, primary colors. Any solid color that looks like it came from a crayon box is going to be hot this summer.

Designers from Dior to Dolce & Gabbana are using crafts in their designs this year. Whether it’s a day bag made from a vintage straw basket or an outfit with crochet accents, buying handmade seems to be the hot accessory trend. Even celebrities have been donning secondhand and vintage items, so take a cue from them—take advantage of local thrift stores this spring and shop for handmade items at craft fairs or on websites where the artistic offer up their wares.

And don’t be afraid to buy those thrift store tasseled bags, since even the tassel has come back in style this year.

Accessories: Top to Bottom

Accessories are the type of thing made for any part of the body. As much as they make an outfit adorable, you can mix, match, and have fun with them. Accessories can be worn top to bottom.

There are plenty of accessories you can add to your hair. A headband, clip, flower, hat, you name it! A hair accessory will draw attention to a cute up do or even when your hair is down. If you want a new hairdo to stand out, try adding an accessory such as a cute headband or barrette to your hair.

Around your neck you can wear necklaces or scarves. Necklaces will draw attention to your upper body, namely your chest and your face. Scarves can be worn to add color to a dull outfit, or just as a cute piece.

On your hands you can add jewelry such as bracelets and rings. There are unlimited bracelets designs in which you can choose from that can add to an outfit. Rings aren’t as noticeable, but they will add a touch to your outfit that you will fail to have without it.

Around your waist, try wearing a cute belt. Plain belts can pull off as drawing attention, depending on your outfit, but belts with designs are more noticeable. Belts will draw attention to your hips and lower body.

It may not be considered an accessory, but socks can help draw attention to your lower body. This usually only works when you aren’t wearing long pants and are able to see your socks. Try wearing bright colored socks or ones with cute designs to get noticed. Don’t be afraid of crazy socks.

Don’t try to draw attention to every part of your body with accessories. If you have more accessories that are drawing attention to your upper body, try to stray away from drawing attention to your lower body also. If you want to draw attention to your lower body, you may try a cute belt with fewer accessories up top. It’s okay to have accessories all over, but avoid wearing flashy accessories everywhere.

Update the Style of that Classic White Blouse

A white blouse never goes out of style but it does need to be updated with each new season or trend. White blouses are easy to update you just need a few inspirational ideas to get you started.
If you really want be dramatic, change the color of the blouse entirely. There are a lot of fabric dyes available and the instructions are easy to follow. This is not for everyone as it is preferable to keeping the blouse white so that it will always be in style. However, if you like the cut of the blouse but need a new color, this is an economical option.
Less work is to simply change out the buttons on the blouse. This is a relatively quick change that recreates the blouse into a totally new look. If the buttons are plain, you will want to change these to more decorative buttons. You will need to consider the buttonhole size when choosing new buttons for your blouse. If you do not sew, you can hire a local seamstress to make this change for you at little expense.
Layer your white blouse by adding a turtle neck under the blouse. Leave the blouse open at the top enough to allow a bit of the turtleneck to show on the chest area. Another option is to add a sweater over the white blouse. A v-neck sweater will allow the white blouse to show a couple of top buttons and still look like a whole fresh look. A jacket will also change the look of your favorite blouse.
Put a scarf with the white blouse. This is a great trick to update your fashions plus add color around your face. Purchase a variety of scarves and you will always have a fresh new option when attending different events. The color and print of the scarf should coordinate with your bottom garment.
