Prom can be a stressful time if you are a girl. You have to choose just the right prom dress, the right color and the right style. A boy doesn’t have it so bad. He just has to coordinate his tuxedo with his dates prom dress. This is another reason why you should not wait until the last minute to ask a girl to the prom. When the boy finally gets around to asking a girl to the prom, he usually doesn’t have much time to waste. To look like a couple at the prom, and in those prom pics your parents want, it is important that the style of the tux matches the style of the dress. There should be a sense of continuity and coordination between the dress and the tux.
Don’t ever pick out a tuxedo before the prom dress has been secured. Your date may say she is going to get one color and a particular style but see another one when she is in the dress shop. It is best to wait until the dress is purchased before going for the tux.
Call the formal wear shop in your local area to find out if they have a large assortment of tuxedos on hand. Ask if they have a specialist in the shop that can match a tux to a dress. If so, this is the easiest route.
Ask your date to go with you to the tux shop. Take the dress so the shop specialist can match the outfits. Short of taking the dress, take a picture of it with you. Notice if the picture has provided the true dress color. You do not want the shop specialist to think a pink dress is actually peach.
Think about going the classic black and white tuxedo style. This leaves it open for the girl to choose any color of dress that she wants without you having to wear wimpy tie.
